7/4/2013 – 3rd of Middle Summer

  1. Weeded one row of beans and peanuts. Used the action hoe on the peanuts since I will be mulching them soon.
  2. Watered some of the new plantings an seedlings. Ended up having to remove the rose from my watering can. My granddaughter put straw in the and the water got mossy. This clogged the rose pretty well. Once it was cleaned out I decided to just leave it off.
  3. Planted the last two rows of Purple Hull cowpeas. The ground was pretty hard even with pre-soaking. Ended up making a new dibble stick. Took a piece of rebar and whipped a piece of bailing twine a couple of inches up from the bottom to act as a depth gauge. Added more bailing twine at the top to act as a handle (rebar gets hot in the sun). Once I laid out the seed holes with my usual dibble stick, I went back a drove the new stick in with a hammer. I love mulch.
