3/27/13 – 23rd of Early Spring

Got one row of peas (yellow) into the ground. Slow going but nice to be outside.
I really need to buy or make a jab planter. Right now it takes about an hour and four passes to do a forty foot row. One pass to drag some of the mulch off with a hoe, one to punch holes with a digging stick, one pass to drop seeds, and one pass to cover the seeds. A jab planter would reduce this to one or two passes.
Going to try barley cereal tonight. Haven’t had any issues with the rye.
