7/17/12 – 14th of Middle Summer

Confirmed that the early corn variety is Mated Chief Speckled Mandan. Oddly enough there is a seed company in Canada that carries it. Found several seed companies here in Kansas: Skyfire Seeds, Seeds from Italy, and El Dorado Heirloom Seeds. Watered the vegetable plot today. Another 50 gallons, one watering can at a time. Can’t remember having this much trouble getting okra to germinate. Not sure if last years seeds are bad or if there is something else going on. Sweet potatoes seem to be doing fine. Gathered some Roma and Cherry tomatoes. Only one Amish Paste. Moved a second gallon bag of tomatoes into the freezer. Peppers are doing nothing as usual. Three eggs today. Not sure what is going on but now the eggs in both pens are being laid on the ground. Shopping list: rabbit feed, chicken feed, oyster shell, two nest boxes.
